This article discusses the need for higher bandwidth, not only for the chipsets on the cards and the protocols, but also for connectors and the backplane topology. As a result, groups like PICMG and VITA are defining new specifications that support the newest technologies and architectures in high-speed data transfer and bandwidth requirements.
