Navigating design challenges for smaller MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA Systems

By

Feature / Discussion: October 2007We are all familiar with the traditional key markets for AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA. These include the telecom Central Office (CO) and the access/edge arena. But many opportunities for these architectures have come to the fore in other markets, including in the defense and scientific areas, as well as a broad range of opportunities within the networking/datacom world.

Justin notes here that these applications often do not need the largest-sized system with maximum performance. Smaller-sized systems reduce the space consumed and also shrink the overall system costs. In turn, this opens up AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA into a wider range of markets and applications. However, these smaller systems bring several design challenges. He will discuss how these issues for small AdvancedTCA MicroTCA systems can be overcome.
