Presentation Stacks PCI Express against Ethernet on ATCA Backplanes
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Oct. 12, 2006 -- PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the leading supplier of PCI Express® (PCIe) and other standard input/output (I/O) interconnect silicon, today announced it will deliver a presentation comparing PCIe technology and Ethernet at next week's AdvancedTCA Summit conference in Santa Clara, Calif.. Steve Moore, PLX® senior product marketing manager, will present on how the powerful PCIe interconnect is rapidly penetrating AdvancedTCA (ATCA) systems and its advantages over Ethernet, then take part in a roundtable discussion on interconnect solutions.
Moore's presentation, “PCI Express vs. Ethernet on ATCA Backplanes,” will take place during the conference's Issues Roundtable on Switch Fabrics session, Tues., Oct. 17, 5:00-7:00 p.m. (PDT). The session will be chaired by Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at the Linley Group.
“There are applications in which either PCI Express or Ethernet make sense, yet in a growing number of them PCI Express is the designers' choice,” said Moore, who manages PLX's ExpressLane™ PCIe bridging devices, as well as the company's PCI and PCI-X controllers.
“The ATCA Summit provides the platform for me to highlight those applications, and give attendees of the session a clear picture of the performance, flexibility and scalability advantages of PCI Express on the backplane.”
Moore's presentation and participation in the roundtable discussion will cover:
• backplane market trends
• the interconnect needs of ATCA systems
• the various choices manufacturers face in developing backplanes
• a side-by-side comparison of PCIe and Ethernet
• PCIe silicon options and backplane designs now using it
• software considerations for backplane-interconnect selection
Summit Draws on PLX PCI Express Leadership
PLX was selected to present and take part in the roundtable discussion at the ATCA Summit due to the company's leadership position in PCIe. PLX was among the first suppliers to announce support, development efforts and actual silicon for PCIe technology.
The ExpressLane family features the broadest line of PCIe devices, with switches ranging from eight lanes and five ports to 48 lanes and nine ports. Nine ExpressLane switches and bridges now either are sampling or in full production -- more than all other vendors' PCIe-interconnect devices combined. These PLX devices have been designed into hundreds of systems in virtually all technology market segments.
PLX has been developing I/O interconnect solutions since 1986.
